Declared “One To Watch” by People Magazine (U.S.), Sylvia De Fanti is an Italian actress best known for her starring role as Mother Superion in both series of Netflix’s fan-favourite fantasy drama ‘Warrior Nun’. The series, described by critics as “one hell of a fun ride” follows a secret sect of demon-hunting nuns.
Her first major television role was as a series regular on Italy's RAI Network’s long-running and hugely popular medical drama series ‘Incantesimo’, in which she starred as Dr Anna Arcangelo. She has gone on to appear in a number of major Italian television shows and films, including Carlos Saura’s 'Io, Don Giovanni', Daniele Luchetti’s 'Anni Felici' ('Those Happy Years') and beloved series 'Don Matteo'.
English-speaking roles include a 2 episode arc on ABC's epic series ‘Empire’, set in Rome charting the rise of Emperor Augustus and starring Emily Blunt. This was followed by her role as Maddalena Orsini in the second series of award-winning Netflix drama ‘Medici’ about the rise of the infamous Florentine Medici dynasty.
Most recently she can be seen in the third series of CBS crime drama ‘FBI: International’.
Sylvia is a native Italian speaker who moved to Rome aged 11. As a younger child she was internationally schooled in Hong Kong, after being born in Canada and then living in Panama until age 5. She has advanced degrees from The Sorbonne and La Sapienza. She speaks British and American English with a native Italian accent; can speak both with a French accent, and can also speak American English with a French accent. She speaks native Italian with a British or French accent and is fluent in French. Sylvia is a recording-level singer and performs live in English, Italian and French.
