2023 world premiere production of the play based on the bestselling novel by Maggie O'Farrell which ran from April to June 2023 at Stratford-upon-Avon's Swan Theatre.
Adapted for the stage by Lolita Chakrabarti, the play focused on the women around William Shakespeare in particular his wife Anne Hathaway - known as Agnes. The first half of the play focuses on their love story and the births of their children, Susanna and twins, Judith and Hamnet. The second half jumps forward a decade when Judith is suffering from the plague, closely cared for by her twin brother. Judith recovers but Hamnet ultimately is the one who falls foul of the disease, dying at the age of 11. The story becomes one of parental loss and grief.
