First West End revival of the Stephen Sondheim's 1970 Tony Award winning musical, directed by Sam Mendes, which ran at the Donmar Warehouse from December 1995 to March 1996, which was quickly transferred to the Albery Theatre until June 1996. The musical follows bachelor Bobby who joins his married friends at a party they have thrown for his 35th birthday. A series of comedic vignettes ensue covering dating, marriage and divorce.
Sophie Thompson was nominated for an Oliver Award for her performance as Amy, one of the married friends, who we later learn ran out on her fiance on their wedding day before eventually marrying him after being shocked by another friend's proposal.
The production also starred Adrian Lester as Bobby.
