Director Ang Lee's 1995 feature film based on the Jane Austen novel. Starring Emma Thompson, who also wrote the screenplay, and Kate Winslet, the film tells the story of the aristocratic Dashwood family whose financial troubles mean they need to marry wealthy men in order to regain financial security. Hugh Grant and Alan Rickman also star as their suitors. The film was nominated for seven Academy Awards, and Emma Thompson won the award for Best Adapted Screenplay. The film starred an array of well-known British actors including Imogen Stubbs, Greg Wise, Imelda Staunton and Hugh Laurie.
