BBC One prison drama series written by Jimmy McGovern, The first series ran in 2021 with the second series out in 2023.
Series One starred Sean Bean as newly imprisoned inmate Mark Cobden who is consumed by guilt over his crime and finds himself out of his depth in the violent world of prison. Stephen Graham also starred as prison guard Eric McNally who finds himself compromised when the prison's most dangerous inmates discover that his son is serving time at another prison. They use this as leverage forcing him to make an impossible choice between his principles and his love for his family. Siobhan Finneran starred as prison chaplain Marie-Louise.
The series won two BAFTAs, Best Mini-Series and Best Actor for Sean Bean.
A second series aired on BBC One in 2023, this time set in a women's prison. Helen Black joined Jimmy McGovern as co-writer. Series 2 followed three central female characters who arrive at the prison on the same day, Orla (Jodie Whittaker), Abi (Tamara Lawrance) and Kelsey (Bella Ramsey). The only returning character from series one is Siobhan Finneran's prison chaplain Marie-Louise.
Faye McKeever had a major role in series 2 playing the villainous Tanya Helsby, who stirs up a load of violence in the prison.
