1993 production of Wildest Dreams by Alan Ayckbourn by the Royal Shakespeare Company at the Barbican's Pit Theatre which starred Brenda Blethyn and Peter Laird. Sophie Thompson also starred as Marcie Banks, and her performance earned her an Olivier Award nomination.
The play is about a group of people who gather weekly to play a role playing board game feauturing dragons and monsters. However when they are joined by another friend, Marcie, who is escaping from her violent husband, she blows the foursome apart. Confusion ensues, secrets spill and, by the end of the play, all of the characters are irrevocably transformed.
