Morven Christie stars as Lexie Noble in ITV's new 6-part crime drama 'Payback' which premieres tomorrow night, Wednesday 4th October at 9pm. Episodes will also be available on ITVX and Britbox.
Lexie is left devastated when her accountant husband is randomly attacked and killed on the street. However, gradually it becomes clear that the attack was meticulously planned and her husband was part of some shady deals with local crime boss Cal Morris (played by Peter Mullan).
The official synopsis says, "Soon, Lexie is torn between two sides, with Cal promising answers about her husband's grim fate, while a specialist police squad seek to prevent him evading justice once again. Which side holds the security she needs?".
The show is the latest crime drama from Line of Duty creator Jed Mercurio. He is executive producer on the series which is written by Debbie O'Malley. Mercurio has talked about what sets the show apart from other TV crime dramas saying, "One of the things that I think makes it really distinctive is that there's a storyline about financial crime, which is quite unusual in TV thrillers, but what Debbie has done brilliantly is to make it very understandable."
In a recent interview about her character, Morven described Lexie as "quite hardened". She goes on to say, "She's found herself in this life that on one level she's built for herself but on another she's kind of an alien in it. In this family that she's built with Jared she has this idealistic, beautiful, loving home life, but outside of that she's really quite closed-off to the world. She doesn't really trust people, so when this starts to happen at the beginning of the show she plummets back into this survivalist, trust-no-one mode".
