The play tells the story of Elizabethan poet Emilia Bassano who is suspected to be the 'Dark Lady' referred to in Shakespeare's sonnets. Set in 1609, Emilia fights for her and other women to earn respect, equality, opportunity and education. Three different actresses portray Emilia at different stages of her life.
