King Charles III (The Almeida, West End & Broadway) - Credits

2014 play by Mike Bartlett which premiered at London's Almeida Theatre.  The play was a future history play about the accession to the throne of King Charles III (then the Prince of Wales). The premise of the play is a disagreement between the King and the government over a new Press Regulation Bill which Charles is concerned is too restrictive and will allow governments to censor the news.

The play was a great success leading to a West End transfer to the Wyndham's Theatre later that year and subsequently winning Best New Play at the 2015 Olivier Awards. In 2015 the play, as well as most of the West End cast, transferred to Broadway where it received 5 Tony nominations.

Tim Piggott-Smith starred as King Charles with Oliver Chris playing William and Richard Goulding playing Harry.  Adam James also starred as Prime Minister Tristram Evans and was awarded the Clarence Derwent Award for Best Supporting Actor. The play was latterly made into a BAFTA nominated TV film for BBC Two with the same leading cast members including Adam James.
