New 8-part FX sci-fi drama series 'Alien: Earth' premieres today on Disney+, with the first two episodes available to stream.
The long anticipated prequel to Ridley Scott's classic 1979 film 'Alien' sees Jonathan Ajayi with a major role playing 'Smee' who is described as a human-synthetic hybrid. He is one of the 'Lost Boys' which refers to terminally ill human children who are undergoing a transfer of consciousness to synthetic hybrids. Watch Jonathan's interview at the series premiere.
The series has been hailed for its superb international ensemble and the lack of big-name movie stars, making it feel more "authentic and relatable".
It is set in 2120, two years before the events of the original 'Alien movie, and explores a future where Earth is dominated by five powerful corporations. This includes 'Weyland-Yutani', where the quest for immortality has led to the development of cybernetically enhanced humans (cyborgs), artificial intelligence (synthetics), and hybrid beings (synthetic beings with human consciousness). When the spaceship Maginot crashes on Earth, Wendy, a young hybrid woman, along with her ragtag group of hybrid soldiers (including Smee) make a fateful discovery that puts them face-to-face with the planet’s greatest threat.
