Period drama series 'The Count of Monte Cristo' premieres in the UK on U&Drama tomorrow night, Saturday 2nd August. The 8-part series is the latest adaptation of the classic novel by Alexandre Dumas and tells the story of ill-fated young sailor Edmond Dantès who is wrongly imprisoned for treason.
Sam Claflin takes the title role alongside Jeremy Irons who plays fellow prisoner, Italian priest Abbé Faria who befriends Dantès, revealing the whereabouts of a huge cache of treasure before he dies. Dantès escapes, locates the treasure and re-invents himself as the wealthy, powerful aristocrat The Count of Monte Cristo, seeking revenge against those who betrayed him.
Fantastic Beasts star Poppy Corby-Tuech has a major role playing Héloïse de Villefort, who is married to public prosecutor Gérard de Villefort, one of Dantès betrayers. Héloïse is a cunning and vengeful woman who will stop at nothing, even murder, to protect her son's fortune.
