The film is set in 19th Century France and centres around a haunted, rural village. Alistair Petrie plays Seamus who is the patriarch of the Laurent family, who once committed terrible crimes against a Romani clan, causing a curse to develop on their land. A supposed werewolf attack leads to the arrival of a pathologiest to investigate the supernatural dangers that haunt the village.
The French-American horror film premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in 2021 and was previously called Eight for Silver. The film is written and directed by Sean Ellis who shot the whole movie on film, on location, with minimal CGI, which creates the haunting atmosphere.
When asked about how he humanised such a difficult and troublesome character Alistair said, "It’s an old cliche but no one is born evil, but it’s how you chart that. I was very keen not to justify the decisions that he makes, but to find the human being first and foremost. It was incredibly important. I don’t judge my characters."
The film is released in cinemas across the US from Friday 18th February and you can watch the trailer here. A UK release date has not yet been announced.
