The series is based on the 1934 Agatha Christie novel of the same name and follows Bobby Jones (Will Poulter) and his childhood friend, Lady Frances “Frankie” Derwent (Lucy Boynton) as they try to unravel the last words uttered by a dying man 'Why Didn't They Ask Evans'? Alistair Petrie plays Bobby's father, Rev. Richard Jones, the hard-working vicar of the small town of Marchbolt.
Hugh Laurie directs, screen-writes and appears in the new 3-part series, which stays loyal to the original story and setting. It has been described by the Radio Times as a "good old-fashioned caper, with quips, car chases and intrigue", calling it "a delight" and "exactly what it needed to be".
As well as Hugh Laurie, the series includes performances from other big-name stars including Dame Emma Thompson, Jim Broadbent, Paul Whitehouse and of course Alistair Petrie.
Emily Powers, Head of BritBox North America, promises that Hugh Laurie’s writing “pays homage to the brilliance of the original Agatha Christie mystery while adding fresh wit, humor, and creativity that will appeal to all audiences".
Why Didn't They Ask Evans is available to stream from today, Thursday 14th April, on Britbox in the UK. See the official trailer here.
