Emmett J. Scanlan stars as David, the violent and controlling leader of a small community in the rural Lincolnshire salt marshes in 1555. The film portrays events following the passing of The Egyptian Act which dictated that all 'gypsies' must leave the country immediately. In exchange for money, David agrees to help an Egyptian family until they can escape, but when Patience (known as Lapwing), a gentle, mute member of his community, begins a love affair with one of the 'gypsies' tensions rise and eventually erupts into violence.
The film premiered at the Leeds Film Festival on 13th November with reviewers calling it "a stunning debut" for screenwriter Laura Turner and director Philip Stevens and "heart racing" with "incredible lead performances".
Emmett stars alongside Hannah Douglas and Sebastian De Souza. The film will be released in select cinemas & on demand on Friday 26th November.
