Faye McKeever stars as Jodie Sweeney in Series 2 of ’The Responder’ which starts on BBC One & BBC iPlayer on Sunday night

Faye McKeever is back as Jodie Sweeney in Series 2 of 'The Responder' which premieres this Sunday night, 5th May, at 9pm on BBC One.

She reprises her role as the wife of notorious Liverpudlian drug dealer Carl Sweeney, but in Series 2 has a much bigger part to play.  As Faye said in a recent interview "Jodie's got her big guns out and she's about to play hardball!"

The first series of The Responder was one of the biggest dramas of 2022 and was nominated for a number of BAFTAs.  It starred Martin Freeman as Chris Carson, a "crisis-stricken, morally compromised, unconventional urgent response officer on the beat in Liverpool".

Faye was interviewed by the BBC about her role and what Series 2 holds for Jodie saying, "She invests in a dessert shop, she wants to get on the straight and narrow, but it's not going well, so she resorts to doing what she does best, which is dabbling in the drugs world."  She also talks about Jodie's relationship with Martin Freeman's character Chris, "It's very much, you scratch my back and I'll scratch yours. She asks a lot of him, and he provides, especially when she puts the pressure on".

She goes on to talk about working with Martin Freeman adding, "I absolutely adore working with Martin, he is such a generous actor and working with him is like a masterclass in acting. I feel privileged to be working with him, he's just a joy and so down to earth."

The official synopsis for Series Two reads "Series Two joins Chris Carson six months on from Series One. Chris is attempting to rebuild his life, and his relationships, desperate to avoid the corruption that nearly sucked him under. He is trying to be a better police officer, a better man, and most importantly, a better father to his daughter Tilly."

Watch the trailer and tune into BBC One on Sunday night at 9pm for the first episode.  All episodes will also be available on BBC iPlayer.
