The Flight of Bryan is released in selected cinemas today, Friday 22nd November, and stars Jordan Renzo in the title role as Bryan Allen, an amateur cyclist who, in 1977, pedalled a plane across the Channel.
The independent film is based on the true story of Allen and a team of amateur engineers who constructed and flew a manpowered aircraft across the Channel to win the prestigious $100k Kremer prize, one of the most coveted prizes in aviation.
The film, which was long-listed in BIFA's Best Feature Documentary selection for 2024. enlists the real Bryan Allen to tell his story in interviews alongside teaching Jordan how to play him in the film’s reconstructions.
The docu-drama will be released on Amazon next month, but opens tonight at Hackney Picture House and selected independent cinemas nationwide. The film was also screened earlier this week at a special BAFTA preview.
It is directed by James Erskine, the 50-year-old British co-director of the women-in-football documentary Copa 71.
