British short film 'Bal Maiden' continues to garner critical acclaim and is one of a selection of short films nominated for the London Director Awards which take place tomorrow night, Friday 31st January. It has been shortlisted in the Best British Director Short Film category and will be screened on Saturday night at Close Up cinema in Shoreditch. This will be its first London public screening.
Tom Victor stars in the film as local miner Pawly in the film which is set in the 18th century Cornish tin mining community. The film tells the story of two isolated young women who risk their lives to break free from abuse after a local miner pushes them to breaking point.
The film won Best Student Film at this year's British Short Film Awards, which took place last week, where it was shortlisted in 4 categories.
It is directed by Aella Jordan-Edge who recently wrote "It started with an obsession about bal maidens, the women who made up the workforce in Cornwall's mining industry. I wanted to put a spotlight on them and say 'look these women deserve our attention. Let’s listen to them'. Even when it felt like the world turned against them these women were and women are storytellers and humans. Not victims."
West Country actor Tom Victor starred in Channel 4's 'Consent' and Sky Atlantic's 'Mary and George'. He is available for voiceovers from Anthea Represents. Click his image for his profile page and voiceover showreel.
