Biblical comedy film 'The Book of Clarence' is out now in cinemas in the US, but viewers in the UK will have to wait a bit longer, with the UK release pushed back to March.
The musical, set in AD33, stars LaKeith Stanfield as Clarence, a struggling Jerusalemite who tries to gain fame and fortune by convincing people he is the new Messiah.
The film also stars Micheal Ward as Judas Iscariot, David Oyelowo as John the Baptist, Benedict Cumberbatch as Benjamin and James McAvoy as Pontius Pilate. Tuwaine Barrett also has a major role in the film playing Samson.
It is directed by BAFTA winning Jeymes Samuel who won won him the 2021 BAFTA Award for Outstanding Debut by a British Writer, Director or Producer for his first film The Harder They Fall.
Reviews have been overwhelmingly positive with Collider praising the "brilliant ensemble cast, standout performances, and a sharp script...a cinematic feast for the eyes, ears, and mind" and The New York Times declaring it "enchanting". Movie Nation declares it "an embarassment of acting riches, laugh-out-loud funny when it wants to be and thought-provoking when it dares to be".
