Mike Leigh's latest film 'Hard Truths', which is due out in January 2025, had its London premiere at the Royal Festival Hall as part of the BFI London Film Festival last night. It is Leigh's first film in 6 years.
The hard-hitting film stars Marianne Jean-Baptiste as Pansy, an irritable woman whose constant misery puts severe strain on those around her. Tuwaine Barrett plays her withdrawn, unemployed and aircraft-obsessed son Moses who, along with her husband and sister, love her but can only take so much. Moses is a constant source of frustration for his mother, she berates him for his messiness and lack of motivation. We see him moping around the house, playing video games in his room or going for a lonely walk where he is bullied by the locals, leading us to question whether he too suffers from the same depression as his mother.
Tuwaine attended the premiere last night alongside all the main cast members.
Reviewers have been quick to praise the film following it's worldwide premiere in Toronto back in September
