Tuwaine Barrett stars in Mike Leigh's "extraordinarily moving”, BAFTA nominated new film 'Hard Truths', which is released in cinemas nationwide today

BAFTA nominated British film 'Hard Truths' is released in UK cinemas today, Friday 31st January.  Directed by Mike Leigh, the critically acclaimed film stars Jean-Marianne Baptiste as eternally bad-tempered middle-aged wife and mother Pansy who lives a life of anger and resentment.

Set in London, the film is a moving portrayal of the relationship between Pansy and her louder, life-loving sister Chantelle (played by Michele Austin).  Tuwaine Barrett also has a major role in the film playing Pansy's withdrawn, unemployed and aircraft-obsessed son Moses. Moses is a constant source of frustration for his mother, she berates him for his messiness and lack of motivation. We see him moping around the house, playing video games in his room or going for a lonely walk where he is bullied by the locals, leading us to question whether he too suffers from the same depression as his mother.

The film has won numerous awards, in particular a BIFA for Best Lead Performance for Jean-Baptiste.  It is also nominated in the forthcoming BAFTAs for Outstanding British Film, as well as Leading Actress.

"captivating...a stunning film full of heart and compassion" ★★★★★ BBC Culture
