BBC historical drama series starring Aidan Turner as Ross Poldark, who returns from the American Civil War to his native Cornwall in the late 18th Century, taking his friends and family by surprise as they thought he was dead. He finds his father had died, his fiance is engaged to his cousin and his estate in debt and ruin.
Poldark then meets, falls in love with and marries a young woman called Demelza, with the show following their story and lives together.
The show ran for 5 series and was based on the novels by Winston Graham. Also starring Eleanor Tomlinson, Jack Farthing and Richard Harrington who played Captain Andrew Blarney. Sofia Oxenham played Demelza Poldark’s troublesome servant Tess Tregidden in the fifth series.
