The BBC's hotly awaiting new thriller series 'The Following Events are Based on a Pack of Lies' starts tonight, Tuesday 29th August, at 9pm on BBC One.

The 5-episode darkly comic thriller tells the story of two very different women, Alice (played by Rebekah Staton) and Cheryl (played by Marianne Jean-Baptiste) who come together to bring down conman Dr Rob Chance, played by Alistair Petrie.

When Alice randomly spots her ex-husband 15 years after he walked out on her, taking her life savings in a property scam, she realises she must act to prevent him doing the same thing to another woman.  But he already has his sights set on Cheryl, a famous author, so Alice sets out to befriend & warn her.

Karl Johnson also has a major role playing Bob Newman, Alice's dad and confidant.

Show creators Penelope and Ginny Skinner have described the cast as "an absolute dream cast".  The series is produced by SISTER, known for producing Chernobyl, The Split and Gangs of London.

"Petrie is a chillingly convincing Rob, turning on a dime between charming and threatening" - ★★★★ The Evening Standard

"An absolutely captivating watch...Petrie is both chilling and ridiculous as Rob as he hams up the character's egotistical nature for laughs in one moment only to switch gears in the next, showing the true monster that lurks underneath all that charm and bravado." - ★★★★ Yahoo News

"The central trio are all immensely well-cast, with Petrie pulling off both alluring charisma and despicable villainy with aplomb...meanwhile, supporting players such as Karl Johnson are scene-stealers throughout" - ★★★ Radio Times

All 5 episodes also available on BBC iPlayer now.
