Amy James-Kelly will return in the new series of Gentleman Jack which begins tonight, Sunday 10th April, on BBC One. Series One ended with her character Suzannah Washington marrying tenant farmer Thomas Sowden who murdered his abusive father Sam and fed him to the pigs. In Series Two we see an unhappy Suzannah living with Thomas and his family, worsened by the presence of his unpleasant Uncle Ben, who is suspicious about where his brother really is. Meanwhile Suzannah's father, Estate Manager Mr Washington has been growing increasingly concerned about her welfare.
Gentleman Jack is based on the real-life diaries of the 19th Century aristocratic landowner Anne Lister who documented a lifetime of lesbian relationships. At the end of Series One Anne discreetly married her lover Ann Walker but it remains to be seen how society will react.
