Brand new play 'Lavender, Hyacinth, Violet, Yew' opens tomorrow night, 8th February, at London's Bush Theatre. It stars Omari Douglas alongside the play's 29 year-old writer Coral Wylie who is a Bush Emerging Writers’ Group alumni.
The play follows queer teenager Pip (played by Wylie) discovering themselves through horticulture and memories of their father's old family friend Duncan (played by Douglas) who died of Aids in the 1980s. Pip finds a diary in the pocket of an old jacket owned by Duncan which they find in their attic. The discovery raises questions about their parents' connection to queerness and the effects of grief.
In a recent interview with The Guardian Omari said, "There is a simplicity in this kind of human drama about family, loss, grief and identity and people trying to find their place in the world".
