A new production of the Tennessee Williams classic 'Cat on a Hot Tin Roof' opens at Manchester's Royal Exchange Theatre tonight, Friday 24th March.
Bayo Gbadamosi stars as Brick, a former football star and heir to his family's fortune, in the Pullitzer Prize winning play, set on a Mississippi cotton plantation one hot summer in the mid-1950s. The play tells the story of the wealthy Pollitt family who are gathered for patriarch Big Daddy's birthday, knowing he is dying of cancer and all vying to ensure they will be the one to inherit his fortune. Brick's wife Maggie ("Maggie the Cat") becomes increasingly fearful that her husband's heavy drinking and general malaise will jeopardise their chances and the estate will fall into the hands of his brother Gooper.
The play is directed by the Royal Exchange Theatre's Joint Artistic Director Roy Alexander Weise.
