The second series of Suspect (based on the hit Danish show Face to Face) begins with a double bill tonight, 17th July, at 9pm on Channel 4, and sees Céline Buckens starring as Sapphire, a high class escort.
The crime drama series continues where the first series left off but instead of James Nesbitt, Anne Marie Duff leads the series. She returns to her role as Dr Susannah Newman, the ex-wife of Nesbitt's character and mother to their murdered daughter, Christina. As a psychotherapist who specialises in hypnotherapy, she is out of her depth as she's not in the police, but she continues the quest to find the truth behind her daughter's death. The official synopsis reads, "When a mysterious new client Jon Fallow makes a disturbing confession under hypnosis, Susannah is forced to embark on her own deadly mission to save a life, the way she couldn’t do with her own daughter…"
Céline's character, Sapphire, is the main witness to a crime supposedly committed by Jon, who Susannah tries to track down to help prevent him striking again. Like Series 1, each episode will be told from the perspective of a different character and Sapphire's story will be fully explored in Episode 5.
In a recent interview with Channel 4 Céline spoke about why she was drawn to the role, "I think the premise was really fresh. I felt that I hadn't seen the premise of someone coming into psychologist's office and then divulging something which leads the psychologist on a trail is not something I'd seen before. And then the fact that Anne-Marie Duff was playing it, because I just feel very honoured that I'm acting alongside her".
The all-star cast also includes Ben Miller, Dominic Cooper, Tamsin Greig, Eddie Marsan, Vinette Robinson and Gina McKee.
All 8 episodes are also available to stream in full on Channel 4.
