The BBC has announced a brand new comedy drama starring David Morrissey and Aimee Lou Wood.
'Daddy Issues' follows Gemma (Aimee Lou Wood), a party girl from Stockport who finds out she is pregnant after joining the mile-high club on a random holiday hook-up on her way back from Portugal. David plays her dad, the kind-hearted but useless Malcolm, who is struggling following the break-down of his marriage and living in a bedsit for divorced men. Which is how they end up living together in Gemma's flat at a pivotal time in both their lives.
The BBC's official synopsis says, "At its heart Daddy Issues is a classic odd couple comedy about two funny, deeply flawed characters, who just happen to be father and daughter. Along the way there will be dating disasters and failed romances, toxic friendships and messy family dynamics, plus a dangerously sociopathic antenatal teacher".
Filming for the 6-part BBC Three series is underway but no scheduling information has been released yet. It is written by Danielle Ward (Brassic, In The Long Run) and produced by the team behind White Gold and The Inbetweeners.
Aimee Lou Wood says: "When I heard David was involved, I was even more excited. He’s someone I have admired throughout my life. Watching shows like Blackpool and Red Riding when I was younger fuelled my interest in acting and so it feels surreal and amazing to be working with someone I class as a legend and inspiration."
David Morrissey says: "I’m delighted to be working with Aimee Lou Wood as she's someone I've admired for a while now. She’s a truly unique and gifted talent. Danielle has crafted such a funny and heartfelt piece and I’m so excited to be part of it."
