BAFTA nominated David Morrissey plays the voice of Oberon, King of the Fairies, in a unique new production of A Midsummer Night's Dream at the newly opened Shakespeare North Playhouse in Prescot, Merseyside. The play opens tonight, Thursday 22nd September. Performances run for the next month before the production moves to Northern Stage in Newcastle from 29th October.
The play, which is produced by Not Too Tame and directed by Matthew Dunster, promises "more merriment than you can shake your ruff at, a big dose of bewilderment and a dash of disaster, this is a Midsummer Night’s Dream not to be watched, but experienced. Pick up your petticoat and fasten your corsets, there’s a donkey on the loose…"
Mercury nominated singer-songwriter Nadine Shah is making her theatre debut in the role of Titania. The cast boasts a diverse mix of emerging and experienced talent and is described as an "anarchic" production by artistic director Jimmy Fairhurst.
Tickets for the play at Shakespeare North Playhouse are available here, and tickets for Northern Stage are available here.
