Award-winning musical 'This Is My Family' will premiere in London at the Southwark Playhouse on 23rd May. The critically-acclaimed musical was first shown in 2013 at the Sheffield Crucible and Chichester's Minerva Theatre when it won the UK Theatre Award for Best Musical.
Described by The Guardian as a "terrifically funny musical...a triumph", it tells the uplifting story of a family holiday gone hilariously wrong — but one that ultimately brings them closer together. The official synopsis elaborates further "When teenager Nicky enters a competition to describe her perfect family and unexpectedly wins a dream holiday, she takes them back to where her parents first met. But instead of luxury, they find themselves on a disastrous camping trip that forces them to rediscover what really matters."
Gemma Whelan will star in the new production as wife and mum Yvonne, who is desperately trying to keep her family together.
Written by Tim Firth - whose CV includes comedies Calendar Girls (film, play and musical versions) and Neville’s Island - and directed by Olivier Award winning director Vicky Featherstone, the show promises to be one of the theatrical highlights of the summer.
Tickets are on sale now. Until 12th July.
Gemma Whelan is available for voiceovers from Anthea Represents. Click her image for her profile page and voiceover showreel.
