Jessye Romeo is to play the lead role of Robyn Loxley in a contemporary re-imagining of the legend of Robin Hood. She will star in 'Robyn Hood', an 8 episode drama series as a fearless young black woman from Sherwood Towers, a working class suburb of the city of New Nottingham. Along with her anti-authoritarian masked hip-hop band she will fight for equality against the greedy city elite.
The series has been created by Julien Christian Lutz, aka Director X, best known for directing music videos for the likes of Rihanna, Drake and Justin Bieber. It is being produced on behalf of Canada's Global TV network, which is available in the UK on Prime.
The series has been filming in Canada over the summer and is due for release in 2023.
Jessye Romeo won Best Actress at the 2020 British Independent Film Festival for her lead role in the short film ‘Lucky Break’. She is also known for roles in 'Pennyworth' and 'Curfew'.
