Khalid Daley stars in 'Choir Boy' which opens at Bristol's Old Vic tomorrow night, Thursday 12th October. He plays JR who is a member of a legendary gospel choir at an elite American boys school.
The play centres around confident and gifted Pharus, a young, Black, gay student who has earned his position as a lead soloist. But when his pride is hurt by one of his peers, he falters...
The play takes us on an "electrifying journey through the growing pains of humanity" as we see the boys navigate spirituality, sexuality, race, identity, and brotherhood in their journey to becoming men, all set to a soul-stirring selection of a cappella gospel hymns and spirituals. It has been described as "a beautiful, joyous play which rejoices in all that it means to march to your own drum."
The coming-of-age tale is written by Academy Award winning playwright Tarell Alvin McCraney. He co-wrote the 2016 film 'Moonlight', which won an Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay.
