A new series of 'The Read' starts at 9pm tonight, Sunday 17th November, on BBC Four. This is the 3rd series of the show which sees leading actors perform dramatised narrations of classic novels.
The new series kicks off with Sacha Dhawan giving an "electrifying and fresh approach" to George Orwell's iconic dystopian story '1984'.
One of the BBC's '100 novels that shaped our world', 1984 follows Winston Smith, who works for the Ministry of Truth, altering historical records. Discontented with the regime, Winston begins a forbidden relationship with Julia. As they secretly rebel against the Party, they are eventually caught and subjected to brutal re-education and ultimate betrayal.
The official synopsis reveals that Sacha "ingeniously taps into this psychological conflict, exploring the dichotomy between the human desire for safety and the equally strong yearning for personal freedom." The episode is also available on BBC iPlayer.
