The new 6-part series, entitled 'History', will premiere at 9pm tonight, Monday 23rd May, on BBC One. A new episode will be broadcast on Monday and Tuesday nights across the next 3 weeks.
Genesis Lynea reprises her role as forensic ecologist Dr. Simone Tyler, after her popular character joined the show last season and has gone on to become a core member of the pathology team at the Lyell Centre.
Emilia Fox and David Caves also return as Dr. Nikki Alexander and Jack Hodgson respectively. Other big news is the return of Amanda Burton who played the lead in the show, Dr Sam Ryan, leaving the show 18 years ago in 2004.
The BBC has released a trailer for the new 25th anniversary series in which we see the Lyell team called in to investigate the shooting of a top professor. We also see a new romance unfolding between lead characters Nikki and Jack. We will also learn more about Simone's history and incidents from the past that have made her the person she is.
In a recent interview Genesis talked about her character saying, "She’s very competent, but I also wanted to show more of her vulnerability in the hurricane of events. She’s not just a scientist, she is a beautifully complex human being."
She went on to talk about the pressure of starring in such well-loved show, " Once I saw my name on my trailer, I realised the gravity of the job. People were saying to me, “I love Silent Witness.” It’s instilled in British culture. People grew up with it. It’s a great responsibility to carry that torch, but I accept it and I love it. You need a bit of pressure. You don’t go forward by doing things that are easy."
