House of the Dragon is the much hyped prequel to Game of Thrones and will premiere on HBO and HBO Max in the USA at 9pm on Sunday 21st August, and simultaneously in the UK on Monday 22nd August at 2am on Sky Atlantic and NOW. The $200m 10-episode series is set 200 years before Game of Thrones and none of the characters from GOT will appear.
House of the Dragon will chronicle the beginning of the end of House Targaryen and the events leading up to the Targaryen civil war, known as the Dance of the Dragons. The show portrays a turbulent period for House Targaryen, tearing the family apart as they fight over who should succeed to the Iron Throne. It is based on George RR Martin's 2018 novel Fire And Blood.
The main cast features Matt Smith as Prince Daemon Targaryen, Eve Best as Princess Rhaenys Velaryon, Emma D’Arcy as Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen and Rhys Ifans as Otto Hightower, the Hand of the King.
Look out for Thom Ashley who plays Brett Lannister in episode 2 and Arty Froushan who plays skilled young knight Qarl Correy in episodes 6 & 7, but we will have to wait until release to find out more about either character. North-West actor Thom is best known for roles 'War of the Worlds' on Disney+, Netflix's 'Cursed' and BBC drama 'Gunpowder'. British-Iranian actor Arty is best known for starring in Amazon's 'Carnival Row' as well as Tom Stoppard's award-winning hit play 'Leopoldstadt'.
Earlier this month a replica of the Iron Throne from the series was erected outside the Tower of London. It is now on a tour across the country, visiting locations including Cardiff and Edinburgh throughout August. The series had a premiere at London's Leicester Square on Monday 15th August. A feature length trailer is now available.
