Tosin Cole has been cast as escaped convict Joe Scott in new film 'Girl from the North Country'

'Girl from the North Country' is a new film which is based on the smash hit Olivier Award winning West End/Broadway musical of the same name, inspired by the songs of Bob Dylan.  The cast has just been announced, with Tosin Cole playing one of the leads, escaped convict Joe Scott.

The story is set in Minnesota during the Great Depression in 1934 and revolves around a group of travelers who base themselves in a guesthouse filled with music, life and hope.  The guesthouse is owned by Nick Laine and his wife Elizabeth, who will be played in the film by Woody Harrelson and Olivia Colman. Their adopted daughter Marianne (played by Chloe Bailey) has a closely guarded secret.  When Tosin's character Joe arrives to take refuge at the guest house, a relationship develops between him and Marianne, in a timeless love story that changes them all forever.

The film adaptation is written by Olivier Award winning director and playwright Conor McPherson, who also wrote the original Broadway musical.  He has also been nominated for five Tony awards and a Grammy Award.  In a recent interview he said that it was a huge privilege to have won Dylan’s trust and that "working with this incredible cast to bring these characters to life is almost beyond imagining".

American-born, British actor Tosin Cole has recently played civil rights hero Medger Evers in the critically acclaimed film 'Till' as well as starring in 'House Party', a re-make of the 1990s movie classic.  He has also recently been confirmed as the star of Netflix's new superhero series 'Supacell', and is working on the currently untitled 'Bob Marley Project'.  He is available for voiceovers from Anthea Represents.  Click his image for his profile page and voiceover showreel.
