The second series of psychological thriller series 'The Couple Next Door' starts tonight at 9pm on Channel 4. The new series begins with a completely new storyline and almost entirely new cast.
The 6 episodes centre on brilliant heart surgeon Charlotte (played by Annabel Scholey) and her consultant anaesthetist husband Jacob (played by Sam Palladio). Seemingly the perfect couple, their lives begin to unravel with the return of Charlotte's old flame Leo and the arrival of a mysterious new nurse, Mia, who works her way into their lives, their street and eventually even their bed. Coupled with a spate of unexplained deaths at the hospital, the pair begin to question who Mia really is.
Adam James and Maime McCoy also have major roles in the series, with Adam playing the hospital's Medical Director Ben and Maimie playing his soon-to-be ex-wife, senior hospital manager Gemma. Ben is in the midst of a mid-life crisis, dating a much younger woman Alyssa, the twenty-something receptionist at his local gym. Gemma is Charlotte's best friend and confidante, who is struggling to process the end of her marriage.
Things become further complicated when Gemma develops feelings for Charlotte's old flame Leo, despite the fact he clearly still harbours feelings for Charlotte. Ben meanwhile begins to question if he really has anything in common with Alyssa, and begins to feel pangs of regret when he sees Gemma with Leo.
