Callum Turner stars as Joe Rantz in 'The Boys in the Boat' which is out in cinemas from today, Friday 12th January. The film tells the inspirational true story of a group of young, working class Washington University students during the Great Depression who represented the USA in the Men's 8's rowing at the 1936 Berlin Olympics.
The film is based on the best-selling biographical novel of the same name by Daniel James Brown and is directed by George Clooney.
Callum's character, Joe, is a student at the University of Washington who is struggling financially after being abandoned by his family and left to fend for himself from a young age. He signs up to trials for the rowing team, enticed by the promise that team members will have their fees paid for by the university. Against all the odds they went on to with the gold medal at the 1936 Berlin Olympics.
