Epic WWII drama Masters of the Air is now available to watch on Apple TV+. The highly anticipated series, produced by Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks, follows the 100th Bomb Group of the US Airforce and their relentless bombing campaign over the skies of Europe in the 1940s. The group earned the nickname 'The Bloody Hundredth' because of the number of fatalities they suffered.
Callum Turner stars as one of the leads, playing Major John 'Bucky' Egan, who is based on a real life pilot from the squadron. Watch Callum being interviewed alongside co-star Austin Butler on This Morning and the Today Show in the US earlier this week. The pair play inseparable best friends. Bucky is a rabble-rouser and a drinker who fights with passion, while Austin Butler's character Buck is solid, sedate and tempers Bucky’s fire.
The series also sees major roles for Freddy Carter who plays Lt. David Friedkin, Stephen Campbell Moore as Major Marvin "Red" Bowman, Edward Ashley as Lt. Col. John B. Kidd and James Frecheville as Major William W. Veal.
Reviews have been outstanding with the Radio Times rating it 5 stars, calling it "an astounding feat...another level - we've never seen anything quite like this on the small screen...one of finest, most jaw-dropping dramas you are likely to see in a very long time."
The Guardian too rates it 5 stars, "With a sublime, star-studded cast and the backing of Hollywood royalty, this extravagant, thrilling series is finally here – and it’s worth the wait", declaring Butler and Turner "phenomenal".
And in another 5 star review, The Daily Mail declares, "The spectacle never lets up. One heart-stopping tableau follows the next, with a vividness and authenticity that has never been possible before in television history".
Apple is releasing the first two episodes together today, Friday 26th January, then subsequent episodes weekly.
