English actress Charlotte Riley has starred in a number of high profile TV shows and is a recognisable face on our screens. She shot to fame in 2009 when playing the lead role of Cathy in the BBC’s hugely successful adaptation of ‘Wuthering Heights’, starring opposite Tom Hardy, Andrew Lincoln and Sarah Lancashire.
In 2022 she starred in all 8 episodes of Amazon’s sci-fi drama series ‘The Peripheral’, playing Aelita West. Prior to this she played the lead role of Holly Evans in the BBC’s gripping drama ‘Press’ set in the world of tabloid journalism alongside Paapa Essiedu and Ben Chaplin, as well as playing the major role of Juliette in ITV’s acclaimed crime drama ‘Dark Heart’, alongside Anjli Mohindra and Miranda Raison.
She will have a starring role in brand new BBC drama series 'Babies' (currently in production) which tells the story of a young couple's turbulent journey to parenthood, again starring alongside Paapa Essiedu.
She had a major role in the Danny Boyle directed BBC TV series ‘Trust’ which followed the trials and dramas of one of the world’s wealthiest families, the Gettys, following the Mafia kidnapping of John Paul Getty III in 1973. She played Robina Lund, Getty’s lawyer, who he had a long standing affair with, in a cast which included Donald Sutherland and Hilary Swank.
She is well known for her role as May Carlton in BBC drama ‘Peaky Blinders’, appearing regularly in series 2 and series 4. Other major credits include playing Lottie and the Ghost of Christmas Present in the BBC’s 2019 adaptation of ‘A Christmas Carol’, playing Kate, the then Duchess of Cambridge in the BAFTA nominated BBC Two single drama ‘King Charles III’, starring as Rachel in the BBC Two wartime drama series ‘Close to the Enemy’ and playing Arabella Strange in the BBC’s BAFTA and RTS winning TV series ‘Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell’ (recognised by the BFI as one of the top ten most important television programmes of 2015).
She also played Caris, the heroic female lead in ‘World Without End’, Channel 4’s 14th century drama series set during the Black Death and the Hundred Years War, based on the novel by Ken Follett. And in 2009 she played Maggie in Sky’s high octane crime thriller series ‘The Take’, about a criminal sociopath recently released from prison, starring opposite Tom Hardy and Shaun Evans.
She has also had roles in a number of Hollywood blockbusters. This includes playing Nance in ‘Edge of Tomorrow’ which starred Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt; playing Peggy in the Ron Howard directed ‘In the Heart of the Sea’ which starred Chris Hemsworth, Tom Holland and Ben Whishaw and recounted the true story behind the novel Moby Dick; playing Susan in 'Swimming With Men'; and a small role in the Gerard Butler/Morgan Freeman-led ‘London Has Fallen’.
Charlotte is originally from the North East and has a native Teesside accent but performs regularly in a perfect natural/RP accent.
