Brand new BBC comedy 'Daddy Issues' makes its debut tonight at 9pm on BBC Three. It stars David Morrissey as newly-divorced dad Malcolm who moves in with his free-spirited, pregnant daughter Gemma (Aimee-Lou Wood). All 6 episodes are available now on BBC iPlayer.
The official BBC synopsis of the show reads "From dating disasters and failed romances through to toxic friendships and messy family dynamics, plus a dangerously sociopathic antenatal teacher, Daddy Issues is an big hearted story about a father and daughter, and the reality of facing up to parenthood - at any stage of life".
Cyril Nri has a major role in Episode 2 'Normal People' playing Malcolm's new 'normal' best friend Stuart. Chris Cantrill also has a small role in the same episode as a warehouse supervisor.
Reviewers have been quick to praise the show, in particular David's comic performance.
★★★★ "A warm hug of a show, but with just enough edge to keep you on your toes...it’s a treat to see [Morrissey] in comedy mode, leaning into Malcolm’s haplessness but also imbuing him with a real sweetness" - The Independent
★★★★ "A comic masterclass...Morrissey is a revelation as the weedy, well-intentioned Malcolm...We’re used to seeing him as brooding and tortured, his detective’s mind beset by doubt and angst. But until you’ve seen him eating trifle with a serving spoon in a hot tub, you haven’t even begun to grasp his range". iNews
★★★★ "sharp, sweet and witty...an effortless chemistry...believable and heart-warming" - Evening Standard
★★★★ "deft, daft and deliciously watchable...Morrissey, who so often embodies authority to a priapic degree, is a delightful revelation as a gamma-male without a plan or a clue - The Telegraph
★★★★ "A comedy for our times" - The Guardian
