Black Panther star Daniel Kaluuya makes his writing and directorial debut with 'The Kitchen' which is due out on Netflix later this year. The dystopian thriller film, set in London in 2040, will close the BFI London Film Festival on Sunday night.
Lola-Rose Maxwell has a major part in the film, playing Fiona. Alongside her in the film are Top Boy star and MOBO award winning rapper Kano who plays Izi and newcomer Jedaiah Bannerman who plays 12 year-old Benji, who are both residents of 'The Kitchen', a London community who refuse to abandon their homes when all social housing is eliminated.
The film is co-written by Daniel Kaluuya and Joe Murtagh (Gangs of London), and co-directed by Kaluuya and Kibwe Tavares.
There's no trailer yet, but the film is scheduled for release later this year on Netflix, although no date has been announced. The film will premiere at the closing of the BFI London Film Festival on Sunday night.
