Emily Taaffe is an IFTA nominated Irish actress hailing from County Louth, near Dublin. She is known for starring in a number of major TV shows & films, including starring as grieving mother Maria in the recent Sky supernatural crime drama series ‘The Rising’.
She had a major role playing Niamh in the critically-acclaimed Britbox thriller series ‘The Beast Must Die’ which starred Cush Jumbo and Geraldine James. She also had a prominent part in Netflix’s BAFTA and BIFA-winning film ‘His House’ which starred Sọpẹ́ Dìrísù and Matt Smith.
She earned an IFTA Best Supporting Actress nomination for her portrayal of Roberta McKenna in the acclaimed 2018 independent film ‘The Dig’. In the same year she starred in the hard-hitting British film ‘VS.’ about the UK rap battle scene.
Other credits include a major role in IFTA-winning drama series ‘Paula’ which starred Denise Gough, a role in the Billie Piper/Lily James romcom ‘Rare Beasts’, a recurring role in the BAFTA nominated Prime Original drama series ‘Informer’ and portraying Katya in the award-winning BBC dramatisation of ‘War and Peace’. She also wrote, produced and starred in the award-winning short film ‘Little Bird’, which also starred Imelda Staunton.
She has had roles in a number of well-loved TV shows including ‘Silent Witness’ (BBC), ‘Death in Paradise’ (BBC), ‘Lucky Man’ (Sky), ‘Ripper Street’ (BBC), ‘New Tricks’ (BBC),’ Vera’ (ITV) and ‘Call the Midwife’ (BBC).
On stage she has starred in the National Theatre’s productions of ‘Nation’, ‘The Veil’ and ‘The Cherry Orchard’, as well as in ‘The Comedy of Errors’, ‘The Tempest’ and ‘Twelfth Night’ all for the RSC.
Emily grew up in Co. Louth in Ireland, just north of Dublin, and as such has a native Southern Irish/Dublin accent. She regularly performs in a neutral/RP accent (The Rising, The Beast Must Die, Rare Beasts) and has also used a multitude of other accents in her roles including Estuary (Informer), Essex (VS), Belfast (Silent Witness), Cockney (Ripper Street, Call The Midwife), standard American (The American Plan) and Liverpool (Lucky Man).
