Tom Andrews is a hugely talented and versatile British actor with a string of major TV and film credits to his name. He is also a writer and has written for Channel 4 and the BBC. He has a natural ability with accents and can turn his hand to many different voices and characters.
2024 sees him in two major new TV series; playing Gavin in 6-part ITV comedy ‘Piglets’, from the writers of Green Wing and Smack the Pony, set in a fictional police training college, and playing John Douglas, The Marquess of Queensberry, in Stephen Knight’s Peaky Blinders follow up, 12-part Disney+ Victorian boxing drama ‘A Thousand Blows’ which will star Stephen Graham.
He had a leading role in Sky Atlantic’s ‘This England’, Michael Winterbottom’s 2022 dramatisation of the Government’s handling of Covid-19 crisis, playing under-pressure doctor Dr. Tom Armstrong, as well as in the highly acclaimed 2021 BBC drama series ‘Showtrial’, in which he played smooth talking barrister Seb Harding.
He recently starred on stage in the smash hit West End production of ‘Accidental Death of an Anarchist’ which ran at the Theatre Royal Haymarket in 2023, gaining multiple 5-star reviews. Described by one reviewer as “an absolute riot – a belly-aching tour-de-force” (West End Best Friend), it was also nominated for Best New Entertainment or Comedy Play at the 2024 Olivier Awards.
Other notable work includes playing Narcotics Anonymous member Kevin in Mae Martin’s BAFTA & RTS nominated drama series ‘Feel Good’ and playing Matt Bowers in the Showtime Original/Alibi crime drama series ‘We Hunt Together’. He also played Barry in the acclaimed Netflix thriller film ‘The Strays’ about a privileged biracial woman whose carefully crafted life starts to unravel when two strangers turn up in her suburban town.
He has had roles in many other leading & much loved TV shows including ‘The Thick of It’, ‘Plebs’, ‘I Hate Suzie’, ‘Sister Boniface Mysteries’ and ‘Afterlife’ in which he played the memorable ‘noisy dad’ in Series 3.
Tom has a natural talent for accents, in particular London (Cockney, Estuary and North London), RP, American (generic, New York & East Coast) and Northern/Mancunian and he has used these accents regularly throughout his career. He is extremely versatile and can switch from cheeky and upbeat character reads to gritty urban tones, with a myriad of comic characters and a knack for improvisation. He naturally speaks with a neutral accent.
