The Confessions of Frannie Langton premieres on ITV1 tonight, Monday 21st August, at 9pm with the remaining 3 episodes showing at the same time every night this week.  The series was previously only available on ITVX.

The Georgian period drama stars Sophie Cookson and Stephen Campbell Moore. It tells the story of Jamaican maid, Frannie Langton, who is brought to England to work as a maid for society couple George and Marguerite Benham.  Sophie Cookson stars as the melancholic and laudanum addicted mistress of the house, Marguerite, with Stephen Campbell Moore playing her cruel husband George, a celebrated scientist.

When the couple are found murdered in their beds the blame falls on Frannie who immediately protests her innocence.  The drama goes back in time to piece together the events leading up to the murder and it turns out that Frannie was having an passionate love affair with her mistress.

The 4-part drama is based on the novel by author Sara Collins who has also written the screenplay.  She likens it to a "jucier" Jane Eyre, saying, "it’s a love story as dark and twisted as the murders that happen at the end”.  She goes on to praise the cast saying, "So many authors write with their dream cast in mind so I was delighted at our table read to discover that ITV and the producers and director had assembled mine! This is an electric cast and I can’t wait to see their work. Every moment of watching them prepare their performances has been wonderful."

The Guardian writes that the series is a "great gothic romance" with iNews calling it "a sumptous but painful queer love story".
