Arian Nik is fast becoming a familiar face on our TV screens with a recent string of impressive credits including Count Abdulla (ITV), Daddy Issues (BBC), Passenger (ITV) and The Bay (ITV).
In 2024 he had a starring role in the hit BBC comedy series ‘Daddy Issues’, playing Xander, a love interest of leading character Gemma (played by Aimee Lou Wood), which also starred David Morrissey. Also in 2024 he played trainee police officer Nish Chowdry in ITV’s “beautiful and brilliantly acted” supernatural crime thriller series ‘Passenger’, which starred Wunmi Mosaku and David Threlfall.
Prior to this, in 2023, he led the ITVX comedy horror series ‘Count Abdulla’ as titular character Abdulla Khan, a Muslim doctor who gets bitten by a vampire (played by Jaime Winstone).
★★★★ “dark, bawdy and brilliant…what sets Count Abdulla apart from other comedies of its kind is Nik, and his unrivalled performance as Abdulla” - Evening Standard.
He has recently wrapped ‘Giant’, which tells the real-life story of Prince Naseem "Naz" Hamed, a British-Yemeni boxer, and his journey from humble beginnings to becoming a world champion. He will play Riath Hamed, Naz’s brother, in the film alongside Pierce Brosnan. The film will have a global cinematic release in 2025.
In 2022 he played the role of Abdul in the film adaptation of Alan Bennett's ‘Allelujah!’ which starred Jennifer Saunders, Derek Jacobi and Judi Dench, set in the geriatric ward of a Wakfield hospital. The film premiered at the London Film Festival and was directed by Sir Richard Eyre.
Further credits include Theo Anvari in ITV's crime drama ‘The Bay’ as well as, 'Killing Eve', 'Ackley Bridge', 'Still So Awkward', 'Dating Amber' and Disney's 'Artemis Fowl'.
Notable theatre performances include the Olivier-nominated 'Blue Mist' (Royal Court), ‘The Ugly One’ (Park Theatre), 'The Village' (Stratford East) ‘Pufferfish’ (VAULT Festival) and ‘Kabul Goes Pop’, at Brixton House - which was described by Vogue as “a gem among gems” and earned him an Offie nomination.
Alongside acting, Arian is a writer and activist. His activism focuses on humanitarian issues and the global refugee crisis and led to him being part of the cast for the Royal Court’s one night only performance of ‘Sokhan Begoo’ in 2022, a special night of readings from Iranian voices protesting for freedom of speech in Iran, following the death of Kurdish woman Mahsa Amini at the hands of Iran’s ‘morality police’.
Born and raised in Leeds, he speaks with a soft Leeds/Yorkshire accent. He also has an excellent Iranian accent and can speak Farsi. Other accents in his repertoire include RP, American, Essex and MLE.
