Sharon’s illustrious acting career spans the last 3 decades and her credits are extensive, across stage, TV and film. Recent accolades include starring in the epic feature film adaptation of the sci-fi novel 'Dune'. The film won 6 Oscars and 5 BAFTAs. She starred as Dr Liet Kynes (using an American accent), an Imperial Planetologist studying the desert planet of Arrkis, known as 'Dune' where the story is set.
In 2022 she starred in Netflix's Enola Holmes 2 as Mira Troy, the mysterious secretary to Lord McIntyre, a Treasury minister and benefactor of the match factory that Enola is investigating. She also had a leading part playing astrophysicist Samantha Crowe in ecological thriller series 'The Swarm', from the producers of Game of Thrones, and billed as one of the most ambitious TV dramas on European TV, which premiered on Sky Sci-Fi & NOW in 2023.
Also in 2023 she had two leading stage roles in major productions at the National Theatre. The first was starring as Odysseus in the epic fifth and final episode of ''The Odyssey', a musical version of the Greek hero’s journey to and through the underworld, in conjunction with community artists from across the UK. And later in 2023 she heroically stepped into the role of London matriarch Denise in 'Death of England: Closing Time', when the original actress was taken ill, with only one week of rehearsals. The state of the nation play, the final in a trilogy of plays, received high praise and was described by the Evening Standard as "uniquely brilliant". She returned to the role of Denise in 2024 for a limited run in the West End's @SohoPlace.
In 2021 she starred in Sky sci-fi drama series ‘Intergalactic' as Tula Quik. Set in 2143 the series follows a team of hardened female convicts on board the convict transport ship 'The Hemlock' which is taking them to a prison on a faraway planet.
She has recently been cast in the highly anticipated Hulu series 'Washington Black’, based on the Man Booker listed novel by Esi Edugyan which starts filming in March 2022.
Other major TV roles include starring as Roz in Seasons 1 & 2 of ‘Sex Education’ on Netflix and playing Fran Baxter in the award-winning BBC/HBO dystopian drama ‘Years & Years’.
Other TV highlights include BBC One series ‘The Long Song’ and series 1 & 2 of Top Boy. She is also recognisable for her long-standing role in all four series of ITVs ‘Bad Girls’. In 2016 she appeared in the feature film ‘Rogue One: A Star Wars story’.
Sharon's outstanding stage credits include roles such as Titania in ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ at the Liverpool Everyman and ‘The Almighty Sometimes’ and ‘A Streetcar Named Desire’ at the Royal Exchange.
She has also featured as a regular voice in the FIFA video game series and is the voice of ‘Scratchy’ in CBBC’s ‘Rastamouse’.
She is a singer and songwriter and regularly goes on tour.
