Iranian-born Paul is a Tony and Olivier nominated British stage & screen actor. He has recently received an RTS Nomination for Best Male Comedy Performance for his leading role in BAFTA winning BBC comedy series ‘This Country’.

In 2024 he will have a major role in new British comedy film 'Wicked Little Letters', starring alongside Olivia Colman and Jessie Buckley.  He plays bumbling Chief Constable Spedding in the film which is due out in cinemas in February 2024.

He played 'Charles of Bourbon' in the 2022 Catherine de Medici drama series from Starz 'Serpent Queen'.  He also starred in the whodunnit thriller 'See How they Run', which was released in cinemas in 2022, alongside Adrien Brody, Saoirsie Ronan, Sam Rockwell and Ruth Wilson.

Prior to that he starred as Uncle Hamid in the US TBS comedy series ‘Chad’ about a 14 year old Persian boy (Nasim Pedrad) dealing with his first year at high school. The series premiered on TBS in April 2021. Other notable TV credits include sci-fi drama series 'Soul Mates', BBC fantasy comedy series 'Good Omens' based on the book by Terry Pratchett and also starring Michael Sheen and David Tennant and the BBC's 2019 Christmas adaptation of 'A Christmas Carol' produced by Tom Hardy & Ridley Scott and also starring Guy Pearce and Stephen Graham. He also had a major role in series two of 'Britannia' (Sky Atlantic) set during the Roman invasion of Britain and written by Jez Butterworth.

Film credits include Disney’s Christopher Robin, Death of Stalin and Notting Hill.

He has worked extensively on stage, including productions at the RSC, National, Donmar and the Globe. He also starred as Maria in the West End and on Broadway in the all male production of Twelfth Night opposite Mark Rylance and Stephen Fry, for which he received his Olivier and Tony nominations for Best Supporting Actor. In early 2023 he returned to the West End stage in the National Theatre's modern re-imagining of 'Phaedra', from writer/director Simon Stone, playing Phaedra's husband, Hugo and later in 2023 he played Feste in the Globe Theatre's unique production 'Twelfth Night: One Night Only'.

In late 2023 he will star as Boris Johnson in Armando Iannucci's new satirical comedy 'Pandemonium' at the Soho Theatre.

Paul's native accent is Neutral/RP and he can also deliver a high standard English with Farsi/Iranian/Arab accent due to his bi-lingual upbringing and heritage.  Nowadays he can speak Farsi but with less fluency.
